About Filmraah

Every film worth spending your time on should leave you with something — an idea, an experience, a lesson, or a fresh way of looking at your own life. At Filmraah, we cover films that aren’t just entertaining, but that can genuinely help us live better: understanding ourselves, finding motivation, working through hard times, and reaching for the kind of success that actually matters. If you’re going to spend two hours watching a film, why not watch one that leaves you carrying something valuable back into your own life?

Why This Site Exists

I’m Shila, and I fell in love with film as a kid, long before I had any language for why. That love followed me through a very different path first — a master’s degree in energy engineering — before I finally admitted to myself that filmmaking was the thing I actually wanted to study. That decision took me to Norway, where I pursued formal training in filmmaking.

Filmraah grew out of that same instinct that pulled me away from engineering in the first place: a belief that the best films aren’t just stories, they’re real, usable insight into how people actually change, grow, and find their way through difficulty — especially the ones based on true stories.

What You’ll Find Here

This site takes a closer look at biographical films and documentaries, breaking down the real decisions, mindset shifts, and turning points behind the people they portray — along with original short films and documentaries of my own, exploring similar questions about purpose, creativity, and resilience.

Filmraah began as a YouTube channel featuring in-depth video breakdowns, in Persian, of biopics and true stories. This site is where that same work continues in written form, in English.

Whether you’re here for the lessons behind a specific film or you just enjoy true stories done right, welcome.
